Keeling Curve Monthly C02 Measurement

The KC Monthly CO2 Measurement is a signal for changes in planetary health originating in the atmosphere. The signal is detected by scientists measuring the atmosphere near the top of the world’s largest mountain in the middle of the world’s largest ocean.

By clicking on the image below, you will be able to link to the most current, weekly, atmospheric COreadings.  The carbon dioxide measurements are made by two independent CO2 monitoring programs (NOAA and Scripps) at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii, about 3400 metres above sea level.

Peterborough Environmental Advisory Committee (PEAC)

The PEAC is a City of Peterborough citizen-based committee that provides advice to staff and council on key initiatives and policies that advance climate adaptation or mitigation actions, or are related to sustainability and/or environmental issues.

The PEAC is composed of nine members: eight citizens from the City of Peterborough and one councillor appointed by the mayor.  Members of the committee are selected based on their knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • environment;
  • sustainability and resiliency;
  • water and wastewater;
  • ecology, biology, natural resources;
  • geography and landscape design, and
  • Indigenous perspectives.

The committee welcomes a diversity of voices and perspectives, including youth, and is open to those 16 years of age and older.

The PEAC meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. with the exception of July, August, and December, and is currently meeting electronically while COVID-19 health guidelines are in place.

All meetings are open to the public,  but are currently limited to listening by phone until meetings resume in council chambers.  To join and listen, please contact the City of Peterborough Clerk’s Office at 705-742-7777 ext. 1820, and you will be provided with a toll-free telephone number and conference id to enable you to listen in.

The agenda for the upcoming meeting is posted on the Agendas and Minutes page of the city’s website on the Friday prior to the meeting.

For your convenience, I have uploaded all of the available PEAC Agenda Packages beginning with the inaugural meeting on October 16th, 2019, up until the present time, including the Terms of Reference for the committee.  The information in the monthly PEAC packages will keep you up-to-date on  city initiatives, and each month contains a standing Climate Initiatives Update report, so that you can track progress on actions and funding for each project!

Please check out the PEAC agenda packages and learn more about the exciting plans and projects that are helping to shape the future of our city, fight climate change, and enact a vision that includes leadership in resilience and environmental sustainability and protection of our renowned natural beauty!
